Wife daughter and I were enjoying the quiet at Clingman's Dome observation tower in the Smoky Mountains national park last Friday. I remarked to m wife 'if I was the type, this would be a great place to pull a quad out and get some pics from the highest point in the Smokies'.
I had no more finished that and I heard 'bzzztzzzzt'. Down at the base of the tower a fellow had pulled out a Platinum and was hovering it head level around 15-20 people. We were about to make our way down the tower and politely mentioned to the fellow 'sir, just FYI an I'm a fellow flyer, operating a drone in a national park is against Federal policy and could really bring some problems, you might want to consider putting it away quickly. There are usually rangers up here'. His only reply was 'it doesn't say that this is a no-fly zone, have a good one'..
About 100 feet down the trail was a ranger and it was pointed out to him about the flyer. He said 'I'll take care of it, 2nd one today.'
Just thought I'd pass that along!
