I don’t really know which neighbor(s) complained. The officer did not give me this information. So I really don’t have a way to reach out.

In that case, I'd just say carry on as you were. You weren't doing anything wrong, broke no laws - don't let people bully you into giving up your rights. I would keep it away from houses as much as possible, keep high and keep moving. Worst case scenario, you get another copper knock your door to politely ask you what you're doing.

I've thought of hanging a small American Flag below the drone when I fly in the neighborhood. I bet I wouldn't get any complaints.

I would try to talk with the neighbor, perhaps even let them try flying if they pass the attitude test. Orherwise, I wouldn’t waste the officer’s time flying from your backyard knowing that the neighbor is going to complain. Not worth getting into a fight over it.

But on the other hand, anyone know if a roll of TP weighs too much for a Mavic to lift?

My local airport contact gave me this nice website and recommended that I keep it open and available when I fly "just in case" the police come asking questions because of a call or on their own. He flies drones as well. Nice of him to recommend this. I haven't had any issues yet, but then I'm only on my 8th flight or so...

Well, there is the area of law called "nuisance law" but that would depend on jurisdiction or be entirely a civil matter.

Good call. you should be able to have a life yourself. Was wondering weather or not they might make any sort of noise themselves that you haven't gone running to the coppers about

Just take a contract out on them and problem solved. If you like, I can send “the boys” around to have a 'talk' to them!

Failing that, just do what people used to do years ago, ie go over and talk to them and explain what you are doing.

In Oz, you would have difficulty because we have a 30m exclusion zone (60m cylinder) around people so unless you have a massive yard, you cant do it.

But it sounds like you have such lovely neighbours who would prefer calling the cops on than talking to you.

Okay try this. Be sure your neighbors are home, even better they are out in the back or front yard. Launch that pest of a drone and very meticulously do a complete and thorough inspection or your roof only 5 or 10 feet above it. This will surely gather the attention and curiosity of said neighbors. When they question your insanity, inform them you are inspecting your roof for damage from storms over the past year and would be happy to do the same for them. Loose, damaged or missing shingles will certainly lead to a leaking roof. You could be saving them from thousands and thousands of dollars in damage. Just because you're a "good neighbor". Show them the boring roof inspection video, they will be impressed with the clarity and detail. Even if they decline your more than generous offer, you come off the nice guy and a good neighbor. If that doesn't work offer to show them your collection of porn!

I can see the FAA finally mandating a similar law in the US excluding drones from flying near people, as there are plenty of examples of people misusing drones by harassing others here in the US.

Being Legal is not the same thing as being considerate, I would never fly above my neighbours property.

There is also a difference between being considerate and being reasonable. I also would not fly over my neighbors property, at say 50 or less, loitering or otherwise obviously focused on them. But at 400 feet, moving in a straight line with a purpose of heading toward or back from a mission? Absolutely, that’s reasonable because it has zero actual or perceived impact on them.

I am a drone operator, I own firearms, and am conservative. I live in MA and everyone of my legal activities is frowned upon if not hated by most in my area. I do my best to be respectful of everyone, even those that disagree with me but it is getting tougher because many in this world feel if they don't like it you CAN NOT do it!?

The problem is not that "they don't like it", it's that there are way too many bozos with drones, firearms and attitude that create disturbing, dangerous and deadly situations. Take your ire out on them as they are the ones causing the need for restrictions.

Didn't intend to politicize it. My comment pertained to those who abuse the rights they do have to the detriment of others.
Relative to this thread would be those drone pilots who do harass others, fly their drones near airports, or otherwise pilot their craft in a disturbing or dangerous manner.
