Am going to Portsmouth to fly over the Solent, maybe capture a ferry off to France. Should I keep WELL AWAY from anything military, like a Type 42? I'm concerned they may simply jam the signal, fly it on board and nick it for Christmas - they're hard to get hold of otherwise...

Seriously, has anyone tried filming HMS Whatever?

I don't know this but I would have thought flying a drone over Portsmouth harbour would be prohibited due to the fact its military as well as commercial ??

I wouldn't go anywhere near military hardware if I were you, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it got you arrested (not necessarily charged).

You can use one of the apps like AirMap or Drone Assist to check so you are not disappointed once you get there. Looking at them it certainly does appear that part of it at least is a NFZ but certainly not all of it is :-)

Generally established military hardware will be marked as a NFZ anyway.

Hi all: thanks for your replies.

I'm not planning on flying near Portsmouth harbour (it would be illegal and, seriously, I'm not an idiot); I'm thinking of going to Southsea, about 2 miles out, and just fly over the Solent as it comes into Portsmouth. What I'm concerned about is a Naval ship coming out as I film the private yachts / ferries heading in!

Hey Mike, sorry, did not notice it was you who posted the question so did not meant to insult your intelligence :-)

No idea about the ships but interested to find out if you ever do.
