Possible to fix free panorama boundaries for multiple shots?

I've just come in from shooting free panoramas over the bay with the red-gold setting sun and reflections. There were times when I wanted to shoot the same scene at multiple exposures and had to manually establish the boundaries for each shot.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the boundaries of a free panorama fixed so that you can shoot multiple exposures of the same scene?

Nope. Can't do it as far as I know but hope to learn I'm wrong. One thing you can do if the area is large enough is to shoot overlapping images that extend beyond the boundaries of what is required. If you overlap enough you could get the area in question with different exposures but admittedly the area would be off a fair bit from one to another exposure. You could crop down to make them the same if you wished.

Several ways to accomplish your end goal. Shooting in DNG will allow you the same exposure latitude you would get from multiple exposures in JPG. You can also shoot a full 360 spherical pano with the wide angle and the 70mm cameras at different exposures and crop out the Free Pano portion you want to use. Similarly, as indicated above, just overshoot the Free Pano in multiple exposures and then crop into it, if using the 6x telephoto.

I'm hoping there's a less complex and time-consuming option. Shooting in DNG is a good option for a single panorama and some wiggle room with exposure.

It's not just shooting multiple exposures that I'm thinking of, too. Sunsets, clouds, lighting, and positions of moving subjects can create cases where I'd like to shoot a panorama multiple times over the course of several minutes as the scene develops. It would be great to avoid having the reset the boundaries each time.

It seems like an easy thing to program. Perhaps the idea will make it onto a DJI to-do list and show up in a future update.

Basically a time lapse pano. On the Matrice 4, you can actually draw a box within wide angle frame to shoot the selected area at high res. However it seems you are more interested in stitching adjacent wide angle photos. Perhaps the 180° pano would be more suited for such shots, and maybe just crop your desired frame out of it later?

No, not interested in stitching panos together, just shooting the same one multiple times without having to set the upper left and lower right corners each time. A good example was shooting the sunset over the bay bridge last night. The colors, lighting, and patterns change greatly over five to ten minutes. I'd like to shoot several panoramas with the same boundaries.

Yes, shooting a 180 pano or one of the other standard options and cropping could be useful in some situations to avoid resetting the boundaries. But not useful where the vertical size of the desired panorama is greater.

Thanks.

On my M2P I shoot panos through the software for 3x3 grid....if I wanted to do that over the course of 10-15 minutes, no problem. But I think you are trying to do this manually with perhaps a larger grid....so your challenge is to "anchor" the grid's 4 corners so you don't have to crop after the fact.....not sure I see a solution within the drone's flight software.

Yes, same for the Mavic 4 Pro's standard panorama options.

For the Free Pano feature you point the camera to the top left corner of the area you want, press C1, then point to the lower right corner and press C1. When the shutter release is engaged, the drone automatically shoots enough photos to cover the area and stitches the panorama together. Unfortunately, it seems that there's no way to maintain the selection for another panorama.

As you point out with the free pano mode it’s next to impossible to repeat the same exact sequence of shots more than once. I still use the set pano modes the most and then if in a high exposure variation area like a sunrise rise/set shot multiple sets with various exposures. The. Mavic 4 pro is a vast improvement over my Mavic 2 pros but the DR of the sensor is IMO not that much better so it is often better to shoot exposure brackets rather then a single with push in post. With the set pano modes it’s usually possible to shot multiple series with various exposures as the drone realigns very accurately. It would be nice to allow at least a 3 shot exposure bracket during the 9 shot pano. DJI is much more focused on video than still shooting.
