I want to share something I found very interesting and recently filmed at Salton Sea, California.
That is some crazy area there. A dying lake and with it the infrastructure around. Ongoing since the 70s.

Pretty nice Max. A lot of birds use that platform for nesting nowadays too, you can see it in the radar target. Have you been camping down here or just a day trip? I live within an hour from there.

Thanks!
Interesting - I thought that metal piece might be a radar target. It is facing north - where the Bombers flew in from: Wendover, Utah.

I stayed for 10 days in Salton City. I love these deserted/abandoned areas.
I travelled numerous times around the lake and saw + photographed everything (I think):
Bombay Beach, Niland, The Salvation Mountain, Slab City, the Naval Station.
Plus a short trip to Calexico to see Trumps new fence being built:

That’s great, is your home base Germany? I’ve met a lot of Germans that love to go to odd places in our deserts. How did you find out about the Salton Sea?

Yes - home base is Germany. I work mostly in LA and have often been for work in the Mojave desert.
This is where my affinity for emptiness comes from.

I was always curious about Salton Sea and I'm glad I finally made the trip.
The smell though is a challenge. Foul eggs mixed with rotten fish is usually not what I like to smell during breakfast :-)
People told me the fishy smell used to be much worse. Since all fish besides one kind has died it got better.

When I was a kid, we lived in Indio and I used to go sailing on it, including one ill-fated overnight voyage I took with my friend in a home built Sabot. Parents were a lot more lenient with their kids’ needs for exploring back then! The Sabot’s bones are probably still there somewhere, preserved in all that salt!

Your video is really good, I like the intro scene - it looks surreal. The colors and haze make it look painterly. Hope you got some good high-resolution stills of that.
