I will use it as soon as my M3 arrives. I have always used RTH on my Phantoms for years, and it nearly always puts it right on the pad as I simply watch.
RTH behavior varies from aircraft to aircraft and even then it varies based on whether or not OA is available.
To plan for a worst case scenario in which you don't know the flight area, do not use optimal setting, set it to preset and select an appropriate RTH altitude based on what you think is best in your area BEFORE takeoff.
It's also important to consider the loss of signal behavior (RTH, hover, or land) based on if you will have obstacles above you.
