It's my understanding that you can continue to bypass this message multiple times. I am not sure if eventually you are forced to update. However my question, is how does the DJIgo4 app on a smart controller know the database is out of date (when you are flying in a area with no wifi), so the controller is not getting any ability to connect to DJI's and check for an update. I don't believe the SC has a cell phone type connection. I can see the database checking happening with a iPad that has cell service if you have service and are not in airplane mode.

Just curious as I tend to keep the wifi turned off on both my Crystal sky monitor and SC unless I am needing to check something or update DJIgo4.

Unfortunately the SC controller has no possibility to connect to mobile network.
I guess, the simple answer is, that the database has an "expiration date" which will be renewed when online with the DJI servers. If you have been offline for too long, I imagine, it will refuse to load then.

I guess every version has something like a "timer" built in ... without regular online update, this will run out as it is coded within the data, as far as I can assume. That means, there's no need for extra connection to check, if the db is out of date, it just expires within.

But that's just a guess.

This is technically true, but since I would imagine the vast majority of people have their smartphone with them while flying, you can just turn on a hotspot and your SC will connect to that, via your smartphone's mobile network connection. That will get you the maps/updates anywhere you also have cellular service without having to cache the maps if you don't want to.

When you update DJI Go 4 the flysafe database for the app is automatically updated and it will include an update for the aircraft as well but that has to be downloaded to the aircraft and that’s what it’s asking you to do and does not require internet because it comes with the DJI Go 4 update

Thanks for the correct terminology, "flysafe". That makes sense. On the Smart Controller, I need to check the version of DJIgo4, I know the firmware of drone and controller are current. Update only takes a few seconds, just was interested in process. Thanks to all.
