I bought a 512gb micro sd card with plans of recording video and taking pics, not realizing there is a micro sd slot for both the RC 2 and Mini 4 Pro. So I installed it in the Mini 4 Pro.

My problem is that while fI was out lying, the controller has a message on the screen that says storage full. So when I got home, I took the sd card out of the drone and put it in the RC2. Then I changed the settings from internal storage to sd card, then back to internal storage because I decided to put the sd card back in the drone.

So what I found weird is, while the sd card is in the RC2, the storage full message is gone and I am able to take pictures but no video. But when I put the sd card in the drone, i can take video, but no pictures.

What do you think is going on and why do they both have sd card slots? Should I get another 512gb sd card to install in RC2 to as well?

There's really no good reason to have a card in the controller.
The message is about the internal storage in the controller.
The card in your drone isn't the place to store imagery from many flights.
You don't need a huge 512GB card.
You only need a card that's big enough to hold the number of image files you are prepared to lose in one incident.

It's a great place to put a spare card for that inevitable day when you realize that you're out in the field without a card for the drone.
I’ve put 128GB in both slots just in case. The drone uses Quick transfer to copy anything good/useful to my iPhone. So far I’ve not deleted anything from the drones card and it’s good to see every photo when I plug it into the laptop. And when I do leave it in the laptop it’s like MS says, the RC2’s card is a handy backup.

Also, if you want to record the screen image with telemetry, it's much easier to have the RC save it to the card rather than the RC internal storage.

So what do you guys think the issue is when the sd card is in the RC2, I am able to take pictures but no video. But when I put the sd card in the drone, i can take video, but no pictures?

Also just so I understand, when I click the buttons on the RC2, are the pics and videos saving to to drone memory card or the RC2 memory card?

Just for the hell of it - have you tried installing a smaller capacity microSD card in the drone? say... 64gb, or 128gb.
