RC PRO 2

It's a similar situation with the original "smart controller" for the Mavic 2's... a hellishly expensive accessory. Even today: if you're looking at a 'reconditioned' RM500, the average price for a good one is around the £800 mark.
They don’t really come down in price over the years either, except maybe in three or four years when the RC PRO 3 or whatever it will be called is released

It is reassuring that 'previously loved' DJI tech holds its value so well... so not a poor long-term investment...

Even five(?) years after it's introduction: the RM500 still commands not that much less than the amount it cost on first release.

While they may hold their value for those still on older RC transmission technology, they are useless (other than for resale) for those exclusively flying aircraft on newer RC technology. DJI forces you to still buy the newest RC technology version to fly the newest aircraft. They are never backwards compatible, and the older RC devices are always incompatible with the newer aircraft. Planned obsolescence! LOL!

Lightbridge became OcuSync and OcuSync keeps changing annually, leaving the prior versions in the dust. Each successive version boasts longer range and greater signal stability in heavily congested areas.

All the RC2 Pro compatible drones are OS4 or OS4+, which eliminates all the Mavic 3 series on OS3 which require the RC Pro. Similarly, the Mavic 2 series on OS2 require the older SC. No complaints though. RC's are upgraded at the same time as the drones. It's all good and expected. Just like new batteries!

Yep won’t help with a Mavic 2 for example but Mini 4 Pro upwards, basically any birds that are OS4 and above it will work with. I have a Mini 3 Pro but would be incompatible but would work on my Air 3s.

Like you say though, unless you keep your birds for years (the non feathered variety lol) the RC Pro 2 will soon become obsolete on newer drones

RC 2 Pro has a useful life cycle of roughly 2 years, much like the venerable RC Pro and SC. It begins now! LOL!

Looks impressive at 2000 nits brightness and backwards compatablity if you have a Mini 4 Pro or Air 3 onwards.

7 inch screen and auto folding down sticks. Synched gimbal orientation.

Just GBP 885.00 though 😂
Problem is it will be obsolete in no time. Probably when the next DJI drone drops with Occusync 5
