It seems that the general opinion is that the RC2 is a better option for flying a drone, but for the life of me I can't understand why.
  1. It has a pitifully low (by modern standards) brightness of 700 nits, vs 2000 nits for high end smart phones. That is a TON of difference for flying in bright light.
  2. The screen is only 5.5 inches vs 6.8 inches for high end smart phone
  3. If you are already carrying a phone anyway, the RC2 adds unnecessary size and weight
What am I missing?

Bonjour

All true, but it's so much simpler despite the compromise. There's no possibility of cabling issues. It works seamlessly and you're ready to go very quickly. You can keep your phone in your back pocket and you don't have it hanging on your controller. As for the size and brightness, that's the compromise.

I can start filming must faster without having to install the phone. Simplicity is worth it for me. Besides, I need my phone while I am filming .

De plus vous pouvez avec votre téléphone filmer votre drone qui part, qui revient, en l'air, au sol ce qui est impossible si vous pilotez avec. A+patc45! sans oublier que vous pouvez aussi téléphoner (humour)

I translated this with Google- In addition, you can with your phone film your drone leaving, which returns, in the air, to the ground which is impossible if you fly with it. A+patc45! Without forgetting that you can also call (humor)
Totally agree

I typically use an iPad mini when flying. If it's over about 85 degrees, the screen goes dim. I'm assuming/hoping the built in screen doesn't suffer from this malady.

I used to use an actual Apple tablet but since I live in South Florida. where the average daily temperature is usually above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, I stopped.

Three words - balance, bulk, and elegance.

Thanks for the perspectives. I guess I was only looking at it from my own narrow need - primarily a hiking landscape photographer, where size and weight are at a premium, and I don't use the phone for anything else related to the drone.

I really like how the rc2 is so little. Coming from a P4P using an i pad mini and a sun screen. It’s a great setup but there’s something to be said about having an rc with the screen and software built into the unit and having a better connection to drone. Plus it has 04 transmission.

Have never needed to try as I don't fly out long distances. But I have watch a couple of videos comparing the two and both indicate the RC2 has less distance before signal loss.
