Registering recreational and then registering under 107....?

Recreational registration still needs serial number but if you register multiple drones under recreational it will be the same # for marking purposes
The discussion is about the aircraft serial number, not the FAA registration number.

To add to the confusing process, being that the recreational # you'll receive covers a number of drones, when you add to your fleet (recreationally), does it cost another $5 per drone? It's not a deal breaker, but it isn't clearly spelled out.

It's clearly stated, but only once you go to the inventory page:

Recreational flyers must add manufacturer and model information for all UAS over 0.55 pounds that they own and operate.

And so yes - each one is $5. But if you already have a recreational registration number and you get a new drone, it doesn't appear to explain anywhere else that you must register it separately. Or perhaps that's just another "FAA placeholder".

You don’t need to put the serial number in the DroneZone. You simple put the registration number on the drone.

Read my answer from the FAA above (#14).

So just to follow up on that - the inventory page does state that all recreational drones must be registered, even though you only need to register one to get a recreational FAA registration number. Registering every drone without providing serial numbers seems rather pointless - do you have any insight into whether or not that is what they intended?

Those drones registered under 44809 don't need to be individually registered. And you don't need to provide a registration number at the time of registration. Simply click "n/a".

As far as whether this is what they intended, yes, it is. Many recreational flyers tend to have multiple UAS (I know people who's fleets approach 100 strong), so it would be cost prohibitive if they had to register each serial number. Especially since the vast, vast majority of those are homemade.

You don’t have to but I can’t think of r reason not to
You're certainly welcome to, but there is no reason to as a recreational flyer.

Right - that makes complete sense - but in that case why does the recreational dashboard clearly and explicitly say that ALL drones must be individually registered?

Because they messed up. They'll be working on it after the holidays to make it less confusing.
