If I decide to go to west Texas weekend trip . And have no cell phone service will I be able to fly my Mavic Air 2 . Ive been trying to find threads or videos of the start up process , from getting out of the bag powering up and ready to fly . Is there always a chance no matter where you try to fly you may be grounded. With these particular drones . What I’m getting at is you just can’t go power it up launch and fly . I have read and do understand the flight rules and regulations. Wanting to buy MA2 reading and learning. Hard to find the questions I need answered.

Make sure you charge the batteries individually first if you have the Fly more combo, upgrade the firmware and download the maps previously to work offline in case you have no cellular reception.

All depend the location. If the geo database is updated and is a NFZ location, will still be active.

Your drone doesn't need cell service to fly.
Lots of flyers use wifi only tablets and fly without ever having cell service.

If you visit a new place and have no cellular service, your maps will wont be loaded unless you load the maps before go to the place. Yes you dont need data for fly the drone, but in case you are disoriented or lose signal and you need to fly by telemetry, having the map can be the difference from lose your drone or recover it.

So the gps features on the drone and software controls Where you can and cannot fly the drone because of the geofencing

Not really. The map (meaning the terrain details) does not need to be present in order to successfully fly the UAS back even under full manual control. You still have many other points of reference that are more than enough to navigate successfully:

• FPV camera view. You can see the actual land features where the UAS is.
• The distance from home gage alone can be used to guide the UAS home carefully.
• The map (without any land details) is still fully functional. It shows you the heading of the UAS and your location (the home point actually). This allows you to navigate very easily.

As in the manned aircraft world, it is always best to practice "instrument failures" so that you can still navigate when you don't have the full complement of telemetry to help you. The actual terrain maps are one of those things that are not needed to find your way home.

I have the maps of my immediate area loaded on mine but usually don't even bother loading additional maps when flying outside my area. It's nice to have them but really doesn't provide any additional level of necessary information.

I noticed that you say that you want to buy a MA2 so you haven't got it yet.....You do have to have an Internet Connection for the first start up..after that you're good to go in west Texas if you're clear of the El Paso Class C. New Mexico is another story..lots of Restricted area's between Almagordo and the Texas border.

No not yet on the purchase. Reading reading getting so much mental overload . I have a couple of practice drones . Going to next step upgrade . problem with East texas so many power lines so many trees . And Were just inside a blue zone .
