Is a good idea and ya can see you were beat to it .
Cover not hurt you but the gimbal lock.
Myself I use the gimbal cover that has the 2 prongs in it to secure the camera .

I have a Mavic Air and put a label on my batteries just above the button and lights ("Remove Gimbal Cover"). I don't keep a battery in the drone so when I put a battery in the drone it reminds me to remove the cover. I only put the battery in when I am going to power up the drone so its a good time to remove the cover thus the reminder.

Shouldn't it say "remove before powering on" since the gimbal does a power on self test which can damage itself if the protector is still in place?

I scotch taped a small piece of bright orange plastic flagging tape on the gimbal cover. Impossible to forget to remove, but more important it wont get lost being put down on the ground or in a bag during flights, otherwise its very easy to lose!

Because it's better to remove the gimbal cover before flight, I've stuck some yellow tape in the battery compartment and have written a reminder on it to remove the cover BEFORE installing the battery so the gimbal doesn't try to orient itself whilst being firmly held by the 2 pronged gimbal cover. Otherwise, simply switching a/c on - and doing nothing else - could burn out the gimbal motors.

I’ve only forgotten once to remove the gimbal cover. Now using a remove before flight tag (available on Amazon) and some fishing line to attach it underneath to the hinge of the gimbal cover.
