Settings for Recording from Boat

Going to tempt fate and take my MA out on the lake today and get some shots from the boat. What settings do you guys recommend for over water shooting as far as things like Dynamic RTH, disabling landing protection, etc...

Here are some things that would be helpful:

1) Disable Landing Protection if you're going to be hand catching/releasing your Mavic Air.

2) Set the "Remote Controller Signal Lost" setting to "Hover" in case the remote controller signal is lost mid-flight. You can then man the boat toward your Mavic Air until the remote controller signal is reestablished.




3) Make sure your batteries are fully charged.

4) If you're flying with a mobile device that contains a GPS receiver, you can manually reset the home point to your current location after moving the boat. DJI GO has no setting to automatically reset the home point as you fly. If you do not have a GPS receiver in your mobile device, you can fly the Mavic Air over top of the boat's new location and reset the home point to the Mavic Air's current location.

Many threads here and youtube videos about this subject already.
And many different opinions about it as well.

one thing: disable landing protection and hand launch/catch the mavic. Set RTH to hover. Keep VLOS and take extra time for approach and landing. Wear a live vest and hook yourself to the boat while flying. Have an observer checking the area for low flying aircraft as well as approaching vessels. Be aware of sudden rocking of the boat with a passing ship.

For step 4 make sure the boat is tied for and aft,otherwise ur drone might end up in the water.

Don't know about the life jacket and tying yourself to the boat thing!! But just remember to reset your homepoint during flight, even if it's closer to you than take off point. Doesn't have to be right over the boat. you just don't want it to go into RTH with 50 percent or so of bat left. If it does go into RTH just be ready to cancel it and resume flying. Reseting home point every so often will eliminate that. Plan on hand catching and launching. Practice that on land if you haven't done it. If there's wind and the boat is moving it takes a little work, but makes you a good pilot. It's best to set up for catch is with the nose into the wind setup to get a good line of flight to get to the catcher. Worst case, if conditions are bad, you can have someone grab it with a towel. I do a lot of flying off of boats, everyone tries to scare you, but it's not that bad, just takes a bit of getting used to, so you're not so nervous.
