Short range,,,,very short

G'day, I have a Mavic Air, have had it since christmas, My son has a spark has had it for a month or so,
We fly from the same places, sometimes the beach sometimes our local park, he flies his spark 1+ kilometer away each time we go out, I start to struggle at 100 meters away, signal drops out, pictures goes away, signal is weak, Lately I cannot get more than 300 meters, without losing signal, and the aircraft brings itself home.
What am I doing wrong, Is it my remote or my aircraft, I have used an I Phone 7 and an I Pad 6th Gen.
I have tried different antenna angles, straight up, straight out, and 45 degrees.
Sometimes I start losing signal 50 meters straight above me,,,,

Might be a stupid question but I assume you're folding the front legs down?

yes,I was using leg extensions, but have also removed them,

Doing this right? You're not pointing the tips of the antennae towards the Mavic Air right?

i have the antenna the right way but admit that i usually point them straight up when I am above me, tomorrow I will try and consciously remember the right way,

Another thing you can do, try switching to 5.8Ghz range.

Guess I should ask, what type of location are you flying?

I don't seem to be able to switch frequency and I fly in suburban and beach areas, My son flies the same exact locations and constantly gets 1000 meters plus
