Smart controller will not update or link to Mavic 2

I've just purchased a smart controller to use with a Mavic 2 pro. Iv'e spent several hours trying to update the firmware on the controller without success .
I am trying to upgrade to V01.01.0076 from V01.00.0820 . Iv'e tried using wifi on the smart controller both on my home wifi and hotspot link to my phone.
Iv'e tried direct update on the controller and via Mavic 2 for assistant both DJI ASSISTANT 2 ( FOR CONSUMER DRONES ) and DJI ASSISTANT FOR MAVIC
Every way I try the update fails and the linking button remains grey'd out on the smart controller.

Error codes at the failure time of update = Error Code 0x02 and

Im at the point of despair. I want my life back. Has anyone any advice before i return this controller and give up on it.

will assistant 2 give you the option of factory reset or is that greyed out too?

is your controller an actual smart controller or the DJI RC, or a DJI RC Pro?

Mavic 2 Pro will ONLY work with the old, original smart controller. If you have purchased one of the new types that work with Mavic 3Pro etc. you bought the wrong one and it will never work with your Mavic 2 Pro. My Mavic 2 Pro has never had a problem with my Smart Controller. Let us know which SC you have.
