Well them being years appart In terms of technology, I would insist that it DOES matter...

Both use the same app for flying despite being years apart In terms of technology.
that technology amounts to some extra frills and programmed modes bolted on to the basic programming framework that Mavic, Phantom and Inspire all use.
If RTH is programmed the same way, it doesn't matter.
Are you aware of some difference in the way RTH works for the Mavic 2?
If so, please show where I'm wrong and explain what really happened.

Not if a sensor is dirty or broken triggering unexpected behaviour.
