Sold my Inspire 1 Pro and couldn't be happier

I sold my Inspire 1 Pro when I heard about the Mavic 2 Pro. The 10 bit color sold me as I had the hardest time making the 8bit video from the X5 match the stuff I was shooting with the C200 and C300mk2.

I just got back from a trip to the Bahamas and I couldn't be happier with how the drone worked out. First of all it's super small and doesn't require a massive pelican case like the Inspire. This alone was enough to sell me on the Mavic. I was even able to bring the Mavic with me on simple little scouting runs and it took no time at all to set it up and fly. This would never have been possible with the Inspire as it's too **** big and takes to much time to setup. Because it's so easy to setup I was able to fly twice as often and get twice the footage and photos that I normally do. The added flight time (almost 30min) was great too. I was able to stay airborne and direct shots much longer than I could with the Inspire. Oh, and I was also able to carry more Mavic batteries with me (4 total) as the Inspire I can only travel with three batteries total due to airline flight restrictions.

Some other great things about the Mavic:
  • It's also super easy to launch and catch in your hands in sketchy conditions like boats.
  • Intelligent flight modes and quick shots are awesome!!! They make difficult shots super easy to pull off.
  • Hyperlapses are dope.
  • Camera is totally superior to the x5.
  • Did I mention how small and lightweight it is. My god, this thing has changed how often I fly on shoots now.
  • Internal storage saved my butt one flight when the mSD card was left in laptop bag.

I just couldn't be happier. Here's some images from the shoot. I've skimmed through the footage and it looks great too. I'll post that stuff once the campaign launches.

Hello LapetusOne

Wow! You sold your inspire for a MP2? Is the camera really that good in comparison? Your shots do look impressive. I'm looking at getting either a MP2 or Phantom 5 if/when it ever happens. Are you able to post a link to a RAW file from the MP2? not one of your keepers but just something sharp, well lit and detailed. Would love to have a look.

Many thanks

Bussty

The day the specs came out for the M2P I was sold. It solved all the shortcomings I was having with the X5. The camera is far superior to the X5.
Here's two raw files for you to play with: Dropbox - test.zip

Thanks heaps for that, I'm just experimenting with AI Gigapixel to see if it's possible to drag even more detail and reduce noise with the MP2, so far so good. When I get some time I'll post my findings.

What's the story behind the tree in the ocean? Erosion? Sea level rise? Very unusual....

Wonderful pictures! There are so many places I've that I wish I could go back to with my M2P. Cinque Terre in Italy!

From a Professional Photographer, OUTSTANDING PHOTOS! Also, you can't go wrong with Lightroom.

Good question, I really don't know. Even our location scout just said it's been there for years.

I have an I2 with X5S and am considering selling it. If it wasn't for the commercial work we occasionally do where the performance of the i2 is required, it will probably spend a lot of time on the shelf these days.

That's what I'm saying. If I need to chase an Audi across the desert at high speed, then I'll probably rent an Inspire2 with and X5s or X7, but for the majority of the work I do, the M2P is absolutely perfect.

Do you find you are always shooting in HQ 10bit mode or is FOV good enough for your work?

Now all we have to do is get everyone to buy 10-bit monitors, and we'll be set!....<;^)

I do love the extra dynamic range. I compared the two cameras and found the X5 to clip highlights way earlier. It's an upgrade for sure. Matches my C200 much better.

Thanks for the loan of the RAW files, findings here...

Pretty confident looking at this that these files could be blown up big (i.e. on the wall) and hold their own so pretty excited about that!

Thanks again.
