Starting to use camera

Aussie seascapes.
I was up in Townsville last weekend. My first real flight over water.

Quite nice shots, of both of you!
Keep in mind that (I think) for photography (as opposed to filming), ND filters are not required. So if you are going for photography rather than filming, you may want to contemplate the use of a circular polarizing filter over an ND filter.

I didn't realize that. I take similar photos and video over the ocean and I started using a ND16 a couple weeks ago. The clarity of the video is definitely better. I figured the photos were as well, but I have not studied them as much.

Nice photos of Oz. Beautiful country.

Good point. I will need to keep this in mind. I got my 107 cert and today I will meet with a friend who is a realtor and take some pics. My first job so to speak.

Fletcher, the ND filters are used for the following reason:
The camera on the mavic is a fixed aperture camera. This means that it can not changed the size of the aperture of the camera to control the amount of light that falls on the sensor, only the time that the shutter opens. When there is a lot of light in the captured scene, the camera will therefore increase the shutter speed (reduce the duration for which the shutter allows light onto the sensor). For filming, this might give problems, since this may cause interference with the shadows of the props, resulting in flickering or stuttering movies.

For photography, it is not an issue if the shutter speed gets really high, until even at maximum shutter speed and minimum ISO sensitivity the image becomes overexposed... then ND filters become useful for photography as well.

Polarizing filters on the other side help you get rid of reflections etc, which yields richer colors and more detail in water reflections.

The above was for me the reason to buy the PolarPro 3 filter pack: CP, ND8, ND16.
