Still need a 2nd drone for traveling. What to buy?

Hey All,

I have the Mavic 3 Pro with an RC-Pro controller but I need something under 250g to take on vacations. My thought was to buy a mini 3 pro or mini 4 pro without a controller and use the RC-Pro controller I already have but I'm not seeing them for sale without the controllers anymore.

Whats my best option? Buy the mini 4 pro with RC-N2 and just have another entire drone set up?

I was also thinking of getting the goggles 3 and motion 3 controller for it for a different experience? Smart or dumb?

What say you?

I leave for Chile in 3 weeks.

Regarding the controller... don't think you have a choice, your RC Pro aren't compatible with the Mini 3 Pro or the Mini 4 Pro.

For Mini 3P you need either the DJI RC-N1 or the DJI RC... & for the Mini 4P the DJI RC-N2 or the DJI RC2.

I use my RC Pro with my Mini 3 Pro all the time so I would go with the Mini 3 Pro since the RC Pro is not compatible with the Mini 4 Pro. In addition, you can get the Goggles Integra and RC2 since the RC3 and MC3 are not compatible.

All of this is clearly noted on DJI.com, they do a really good job of explaining compatibility in a really complex and confusing environment where it doesn't always make sense based on the technology or the timing.

• To fly a drone in Chile your drone must be registered and you must obtain authorization from the DGAC. See the section below to learn more.

Thank you, I'm seeing the mini 3 available without the controller.

What do you guys think of the goggles with a mini 3? I know it's not a real FPV

I would check the accessory that you want to buy and then read the compatibility list based on that particular accessory. It is there which is up to date the most since release notes are based on timing and are not usually re-addressed or amended. Honestly I would say looking to the release notes is better use for specific compatibility so it's much easier to pick an accessory like the RC3 and then read the dozen or so drones, remotes, goggles that are compatible all in the one list. If I were updating the website, it's probably the only place I would constantly make comprehensive changes to (meaning there are probably a dozen other places that don't get updated). for example, you can't always depend on the accessories packaging because the artwork might be old or outdated. There are several mini 3 pro drone only for sale on EBay. I have a mini 3 pro and use the RC Pro on it as well. It allows me to use it on both (Mavic 3 Pro and Mini 3 Pro) but only a limited amount of times if I don’t bind it (as it is binded to my Mavic 3 Pro. It does seem to reset the limits each time I switch it back and forth (without resetting the binding to the Mavic 3 Pro.).

I have used Mini 3 Pro in Mid and Northern Argentina, for a tiny drone it was amazing at the high altitudes, highest flight was 4200m.
Multi shot pano's and 360 deg flawless. Surprisingly stable shots event thought the drone was bouncing about.
All video footage and flights were smooth, except for one on a lithium lake, one video recording ended up with some strange artefacts and for about 1 second in my footage, must have been some weird interference with the camera system, it has never done it before or after that.

Yes, the mini 4 pro was great. My trip was cut short because of wife getting ill but I did get some good footage of some vineyards down south of Santiago.

Also, just got back from the Burgundy region of France where the mini 4 was perfect for.

Cool. If you don't mind my asking, I'd be interested in your experience (or lack thereof) in getting registered, etc., and how that went (or didn't). Also interested in what parts of the country you flew your drone in and how that went. PM welcomed if you would rather not share in the open.

I'm going in November, will be in Santiago, Valparaiso, then out to Easter Island. I expect Santiago (as the capital and a big city) may not be a viable option. But Valparaiso looks interesting and I'd love to fly there if it's possible (though it's a major port and there are naval facilities). Easter Island is mostly a national park, it seems there's a very low tolerance for tourist shenanigans there and I expect drones will be pretty clearly banned in the park, but there are a few parts of the island that are outside the jurisdiction of the park, so maybe there's some hope there if one is careful and discreet.

Would love to hear more details.
