I did a remix of a simple tablet bracket to give a little more support to my Galaxy Tab A on the Mavic Air 2 remote. Available here: Mavic Air 2 Tablet Bracket by sberfield
Having just purchased a similar design for an iPad, I have concerns about the extra weight of the tablet stressing the fragile silver antenna tubes. The balance of the RC with the tablet mounted in this way is also away from you, placing a strain on the forearms of the user, but that lifting is also stressing the antenna tubes. I'm using this one instead. Great balance, and no stress on the fragile silver tubes. You can even use the stock iPhone cable with a Mini 5, if you thread the cable through the middle of the mount, instead of around the edge, if you also slide the Mini 5 slightly to the left in the mount. Works great for the full sized 9.7” iPad, too! That's certainly possible - though the tubes are pretty surdy. THe actual antennas are in teh top of the phone clamp - I worry a bit about maybe causing some interference with the tablet going up past them. THis is really just a temporary solution for my old eyes that can't see a cell phone very well until I can get something better. I'd kinf of like to get something that holds the tablet more over the controller than this does.
That's the real problem with the tablet mounted resting on the silver tubes: the weight falls away from you, and to bring it into a neutral balance, you have tip it too far up. It won't tip over when setting it down because the antennas in the ends of the tubes help keep it upright, but it is unbalanced.I feel like with the weight of a tablet and the remote, a neck strap of some kind to hold the whole thing feels appropriate.
Hopefully some good solutions arrive soon.
the lanyard would have to go over the screen, blocking a clear view.
I applaud your inventiveness, but shoulder strap RC "trays" have been used by RC guys for years. They work, but are large and cumbersome, and really designed for much heavier setups, such as RC's with external antennas, boosted by heavy amps and external batteries for the amps, where the combined extra weight under the RC would literally pull the RC apart, unless supported from underneath. For something as small as the MA2, they would be complete overkill, and ruin the portability and small form factor. What if we're not thinking far enough outside the box here? We're trying to fit a square peg into an approximately square hole, but they don't match.
What about something that sets the controller into what is essentially a cradle? You could use straps or some kind of mounting solution that would wrap around the controller on the vertical axis between the Home button and mode switch. Mount some kind of elevated platform that houses a range of tablet sizes and you latch the lanyard/neck brace to the outsides of the tablet holder.
This prevents undue pressure against the tubes housing the antenna and gets away from the very top-heavy feeling of the current MA2 controller.
