Some do think it is a take off of the Maverick name in top gun, but no one really knows.

Others go with the French meaning of bike parts.

Very interesting theories and discussion. But let me take this topic in a different direction. How is the name MAVIC pronounced? Specifically, the letter "A".

Like the "a" in Dad?
Like the "o" in Mom?
Like the "a" in baby?

There's a large bike brand called Mavic who are one of the main companies that manufacture wheels and they're in financial trouble at the moment so I keep seeing negative headlines about Mavic and worried it's the drone but they're about the bike brand.

The bike Mavic name stands for Manufacture d'Articles Vélocipédiques Idoux et Chanel which I think roughly translates to manufacturer of bike bits by Idoux and Chanel (the two people who founded the company).
