Seeing as he's in Alaska, my money is on Denali, formerly known as Mt. McKinley. Nice picture and that is one rugged looking environment. I never heard of anyone skiing there.

The hint was "north america". Denali is the largest mountain in north america. No skiing unless you're coming down an interesting section after going up with crampons....

Smooth as silk is rarely a good thing. Smooth as silk usually means a recent snowfall and deep difficult to walk on surface. Nicely packed down snow isn't always too smooth but at least it's firm enough to walk on. On a snowmachine a nice new snow is a joy.
