With the Fly app and a Mavic Mini an iphone 5S and a Samsung S6. The FLY app needs a 64bit phone which is where I was scuppered and had to get a 'new' phone. Ebay 2nd hand.

RAM is a type of memory.
I think it equates to very quickly accessible temporary memory on chips that can be used by programs during their number crunching. Think of it as informatiion carried in your head vs information in a note book.
It is probably listed in the phone's specifications as, unlike a computer, it is not something that could easily changed. Nor is it memory for long term storage of stuff like photos or video which may be quoted as a different sort of memory with a different size.
For example Galaxy S6 | 32GB, 5.1" Quad HD Display (Black Sapphire)
states the S6 has 3G of RAM and 32G of ROM, the latter is the long term memory space for photos etc. i.e. the" note book".

I use an apple ipad mini5 with my Mavic Air 2. Works great, and I like the bigger screen. You should have no problem using that with the mini2.
Thanks for those answers guys. Have any of you read the reviews on play store or the like. about the problem people are having with the DJI fly app

Just received a new mini 2 for Christmas. Currently using a Galaxy S9+ which needed updating for the new mini. This process took like for ever, but seems to work really well. I also have the new Samsung S7 tablet which I'm hoping to use once I receive the lanyard I ordered online. Hoping the bigger screen will make the flying experience more pleasant.
They really shouldn't be calling the storage as ROM. I know they do, but it isn't correct. ROM can't be changed. Since the internal flash is used like a hard drive, it should be called storage.
Hi. I feel your pain. My original drone was a DJI Mini. It worked perfectly with my Wiley fox android phone. But now with the mini 2. It won't connect. I have a strange thing with mine. Everything is connected. with cables. and turned on. But I get a message saying "Connect aircraft" Well if I knew how to do that. I wouldn't be here FFS !! Anyway, I seem to be able to make the Gimbal move up and down using the wheel top left. Can you do that? My son has my drone at the moment. He went to the app store where I originally downloaded the app. The reviews of the app, are terrible. DJI. You need to sort this. I'm about to take back my second new mini to the store I got it from. For a full refund this time. And I will probably come out with a new mini one. Briefly, I've been trying to get this thing in the air a week before Christmas. And knowing I spent £549 on this. It's spoilt my Christmas. Basically, I HATE DJI right now. They are Supposed to be the best drones in the world. This problem is going to cast them a fortune in returned Mini 2's.

Trust me, DJI produce the best drones. We got a Phantom 4 Pro Plus a few years ago for professional filming and it's been great. Our Mini 2 arrived yesterday and had a gimbal problem straight out of the box - which might have to be returned if we can't fix it today. We'll hopefully be using an Honor 10 Lite phone, although the above suggestion of an iPad5 would be great subject to cost. Technology is a wonderful thing when it works and a pain in the backside when it doesn't. Our internet was wiped out on Christmas Eve and only restored yesterday lunchtime.
Please don't give up on DJI drones. And the Mini 2 is better than the Mini 1, if only for the newer/better rock-solid occusync connectivity. All the best.

Hi. No I won't give up on DJI. I was just a bit riled up. Until I bought my first mini November last year. It has never ceased to amaze me. My horizon is open out the front of my home for about 2 miles. That little drone flew to the next village (Not over the top mind! ). And flew home all on its own. by RTH. and landed only two feet away from where it took off. And the video quality was amazing. So when the new mini came out. And with all the extra stuff it could do. I had to get one. ASAP. And the quickest way was to click and collect from good old Argos. I couldn't wait to get it home and fly it. Well, that excitement has turned into two weeks of anger and frustration.
My son (Over Zoom) tried to assist me in getting it to fly. But we could not get a camera view. And never-ending message saying "Connect Aircraft". That never happened. So I packed it up after a few days. And took it back. And good old Argos. Simply offered a full refund .or replacement. I went for a replacement. I was actually scared to take it out of the box. When I did. I had the same problem. I've since learned that my Wileyfox android is not on the "Compatible Devices" list to fly the new mini 2. So in the meantime. I've bought a cheap Samsung phone off eBay. And a nock off Male 'C' type to male 'C' type lead. As there are rumors that there was a batch of faulty leads. I'm going to see how those items work. If they don't? It's back to Argos for a refund this time. I'll save my money for six months. And hopefully, this issue might be sorted. And it is an Issue that DJI must sort. and from the messages, I've had. I'm not the only one. Phew. I went off on one again. Nice to hear from you. I'm Dave by the way. What's yours?

Dave: Good to hear that you won't be giving up on DJI drones. I'm not overly technical, but the main point is that your phone must be 64 bit rather than 32 bit. I didn't actually know this until a few weeks ago. It's easy to check what your device is and you can google "how to" very easily. You probably already know this, but the official DJI list of compatible devices is only the tip of the iceberg - but the 64 bit factor is a must. With the P4P+, there is a super-bright integrated screen with the controller (so one less hurdle to overcome).

If you can move the gimbal at your command with the wheel on the controller then the controller is communicating with the drone. Can you start the motors using the CSC stick position, page 42 of the manual? DJI Mini 2 - Downloads - DJI
Providing the drone has been activated I believe it should be possible to fly the drone ( its range will likely be severely limited) without a phone being connected to the controller. DO NOT try to fly, rather just see if you can start and stop the motors.
If you encounter problems with the 'new' phone (what phone, exactly?) can you post the exact message that you see, perhaps even a screen capture, also what is/was the colour and any flash patterns for the leds on the drone (front and back) (p12 & 23) and the controller?
One question that someone else will need to address, could your "Connect aircraft" be refering to the quick transfer mode being in force as opposed to 'control communication"? I believe the former can be or is a direct wifi/radio connection between the drone and the phone.
