Rajwinder Singh, during DECEMBER 8 2022 court appearance, pleaded guilty to the charge of operating an aircraft without a permit under the Aircraft Access Regulations of the Canada National Parks Act.
He has until June 8, 2023 to pay $10,000 fine.

Yep I did a google, lol, his flight did ground fire fighting helicopters which won't have helped his case.

It was not just any typical garden variety wild fire. If it's the case I'm thinking of, it was Jasper National Park and the fire was threatening the town of Jasper. Grounding the fire fighting aircraft at a critical moment during their fight against the flames was a really BIG DEAL.

It's not merely that he was flying a drone in a National Park without a permit. They threw the book at him for every possible contravention.

Glad they did.

Though I believe the fine imposed was not the maximum that they could have.

People like this give all of us a bad name unfortunately. The max. fine is $20K CAN. If you want to fly in the park for a private film production you are required to prove the footage is being used to promote the parks interests along with a permit fee, the cheapest being $650 CAN for the first day. Application attached.

Yes the fire did shut down the town of Jasper. We were coming back from Price George this weekend of the fire and stopped in Jasper to fuel up and the town was shut down as the fire had closed in on the power sub station too close so to prevent damage to the sub station the power was shut off to the suronding areas. This included all of Jasper. Thank God there was the Petro Can gas station open as they had a backup generator.
