A lot of Mavic lovers here on Mavic Pilots forum. I'm not necessarily in lock step with these opinions. I too was in your exact situation. P3P and decided to go with Mavic.
The Mavic is a fine bird and I have had no issues with mine. But if I had to do this again,.....I would own a
P4P+.
And as a previous poster stated,.....it all depends on what you want from your quad copter.
If portability is your main concern,...then the Mavic is your bird.
But if you are buying for photography,......then the
P4P's 20 MP camera cannot be touched by any other hobby drone. Stability in wind is another consideration. The Mavic does a pretty good job there,....but as has been mentioned time and again on this forum,....the
P4P's weight gives it a slight advantage in that category. I think you would have an advantage with accessories as well, as the Phantoms have been around for a bit. Such as ND filters. I am not a big fan of the push on filters. Once on,....they can become a pain in the butt to remove as witness by myself and spoken about many times on this forum.
There is the thing about distance and real world experience. The Mavic does hold a slight advantage in advertised distance. (Not going to go into the legalities of not being in line of sight) I having never owned a
P4P cannot compare the two,....but find about a mile to be realistic for the Mavic at decent photography height. I am going to assume about the same for the
P4P.
Now I am not going to put down the Mavic. As stated,..it depends on what your priorities are. I purchased my bird to do photography. And I can tell you that I see a decline in quality from my P3P movies and photos from the Mavic. So if photography is your main priority,....then the
P4P or
P4P+ is the way to go. If portability with decent enough photography is your main concern,......then the Mavic should be your choice.
PS If anyone whom owns an uncrashed
P4P+ wants to swap out to an uncrashed Mavic Fly More kit with tons of accessories,........please reply to this posting.
