Hello everybody, new here and new to the world. Been reading a lot and trying to absorb as much as i can as fast as i can. i know this topic is well discussed but i see different opinions on it, so i am hoping you guys can shed some light and advice. Just got a new M2Z and this is my current situation as far as firmware.

Smart Controller1.jpgDJI Go4 App1.PNG

i want to be compliant with all the rules and regulations ( probably already have my answer to this question ), but what do you guys think ? Should i upgrade all my firmwares to the latest ? is there a way to upgrade in levels, like lets say to .0400 on the aircraft and so forth ? i have both controllers so sending pic from SC and Go 4 app on my iPhone. Please feel free to kick me in the **** if I'm being an idiot and it won't happen again. Sorry to bring this topic again but please point me in the right direction !!! Hope to hear from everybody good or bad....

Edit : Sorry Mods for language. It will not happen again.
PS. I do not want to circumvent any regulations and NFZ's, just want to avoid any possible issues with new firmware.

I keep my apps and firmware up to date. Like any software, usually updates bring improvements, and sometimes new problems arise. It's hard to predict.
I like getting the improvements and hope that found quirks are fixed.
One thing that many griped about was that M2 didn't let you change how long it would be before battery would discharge. Now that's available, though introduced to hopefully appease the battery swelling complaints. Complaints about Precision Landing, now that's available.
I suspect the latest Go app is more prone to crashing. If that is the case, hopefully that will be fixed in next version.

There's the other option that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's a valid approach too. You have to weigh and judge what you'll gain and what you'll lose.

Thank you for your thoughts, DanMan32. I am a lil ocd with keeping everything up to date as well.
Just wanted to see what kind of opinions are out there coming from the pro’s. If a huge percentage of this forum members recommends a certain stage of firmware I would probably do that considering the experience. But I think in my case, keeping up to date, is inevitable anyways. I’m too new on this topic and it will also keep me out of trouble. Even tho in NYC I will only fly in the designated parks.
Fun fact : I am actually reluctant of taking off before I get my 107 license. Working on it tho.

Generally keeping devices updated is the appropriate approach. This is NOT the case with DJI products. Before upgrading, do a massive amount of research. Search this forum for the version you have and gauge the overall community reception and compare it to the the version you're about to upgrade to. Some upgrades are irreversible and/or much more difficult to downgrade if you have other intentions down the road (such as modifying the aircraft with custom firmware that remove DJI restrictions, improve things, or even unlock features which the MP/MPP allow).

Never, ever, upgrade without knowing what you're gaining or losing.

I have spoken. ?

When it comes to firmware, I agree. A conservative approach is best. Especially when it's a one way upgrade. If you google "firmware upgrade brick", there are nearly 9 million hits.

And a meme was born...

I agree. I do the same with iPhone software updating.

Find an wide open area, preferably w/o trees, keep the drone reasonably close, and fly the dang thing! There is a learning curve getting use to flying, the controller icons, and various drone cinematic maneuvers.

Go have some fun! It is often said the first step can be the hardest! It will bring on a smile.
