Hi guys,

I will travel to the US (Miami) in November this year and would like to bring my Air along.

I did my search in and out of the forum and of course here : Unmanned Aircraft Systems

If I understand clearly that I WILL have to register my Air, what is NOT clear to date is whether I fall, as a recreational foreign flyer, under " the Special Rule for Model Aircraft (Section 336)" OR the "Small UAS Rule (Part 107)".

Why it is not clear ?

1. The law has apparently been changing a lot lately in the US for recreational drone users and its hard to find sound, up to date (autumn 2018) interpretations of the rules,

2. Section 336 applies to "aircraft under 55 lbs. unless certified by a community-based organization " : with 430 g / 0,95 lbs. TOW, has the Air have been certified in some ways ? I can not find any info about that and would mean that I (We) fall under the Small UAS Rule (Part 107).

3. If concerned by Part 107, I understand that getting a "Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA" is mandatory...

The floor is now yours.

Thanks you for your help !

Fly safe !

Are you going to make money or have someone else benefit from your activities? If not then you are flying recreational. Follow those rules.
The new law passed, but the provisioning hasn't been set up yet. Congress gave FAA 180 days to do so.
The Air definitely weighs under 55 pounds so don't worry about the "unless" clause.

So true !

I got caugt by the gramms to lbs conversion ! ... sorry !

As it will be for recreation I will go (as long as We can) under section 336 then.

It was still interesting to get into the latest drone regulation udpates.

Thanks for your precious help !

Correct. You want Sec 336 registration. (or whatever ends up replacing that section under the new rules). The other option, Part 107 registration, requires that you have a Remote Pilot Certificate. That's needed if you fly for non-recreational purposes.
