Hi all,

Newbie here so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong area.

I'm about to go travelling for a few months and want to take my drone (Mini3) with me. Most of the countries I am visiting don't have any issues with drone usage however, I am stopping in Oman for 5 days before continuing onto Sri Lanka. From what i can gather, I can't take my drone into Oman which is not an issue. My question is, will I be able to declare it at customs, leave it at the airport and then collect it on my way out? I've seen some people online have said this is possible but can't find official confirmation anywhere. Just wondered if anyone has experienced this?

Thanks

I have a little experience that might help you decide. I have posted the following story numerous times on this forum, but since you are new to the forum, here is a brief summary of my disastrous experience. I tried to sneak my Mini 2 into Kenya for a safari trip. The drone was in my regular camera bag. As it transmitted the final scanner before being allowed to leave the customs area, the canner alerted the officer and my bag was removed from the scanner and I had my drone confiscated. I had to take out about 45 minutes to go to a special desk where my drone was logged into a huge paper ledger (from the 18th century). I received a receipt and I was on my way, without my drone.

Weeks later, on returning to the airport on my way home, I had to allow 3 hours. I first needed proof of departure with a boarding pass from my airlines, but that desk was not yet opened until two hours before fight time. I was first in line and got my boarding pass. Then, my guide/driver had to take me to another terminal , where a terminal police officer issued a pass to enter a third terminal where my drone was being stored. Then,we drove to the third terminal, and after waiting in line, had to find my drone in a large cabinet of hundreds of other confiscated drones. all of the drones were WRAPPED in bubble wrap so, it was hard to find. After finally finding my drone, I had to pay a fine and storage fee. Then, into the car and back to my departure terminal. I made my international (Kenya/USA) flight by mere minutes. My wife had to wait in the car all this time and was understandably furious with me.

On a subsequent trip to the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), I had thought of also seeing Oman, but when I checked into their web site regarding drones, it was a definite NO, with fines and jail time. So Oman was off the itinerary.. Using a drone in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is also fraught with tons of paperwork.
Consider this when you travel. Just saying...!
