Finally found a helicopter that's a reasonable price with quad capabilities. Love my DJI quads and now I'm adding this to my fleet:

I still have a Corona Helicopter that I purchased a couple of decades ago. **** scary if you’re not very careful as it has some very large heli blades. It was billed as a crash proof because the blades would fold if it hit something. I recently turn in the batteries to a recycle center as it’s been too long to trust the batteries to charge. It was a lot of fun and I’m glad I bought it for the experience, but it now sits on my RC shelf. Be careful, just a friendly reminder of the danger it can pose.

The rotor width is 80 cm (2.62 feet) so it's a decent size aircraft and definitely dangerous. Weighs 2.5 kgs (5.5 lbs) with battery so ya, definitely the heaviest aircraft I have flown. Previous was my P3P at 1.2 kgs and that was a tank lol. I'm really looking forward to it's arrival and testing it out.

I primarily fly 2 meter RC pattern planes powered by YS140L four stroke glow fuel although have several electrics too. The only Heli I've ever owned was back in the 80's, a 25cc gas powered Bell 47g, quite a large monster.
My new bird arrived today. Going thru everything, charging the battery, reading the manual, the usual lol. The stock 5000 mah 14.8v 4S battery weighs 385 grams. I found and ordered a 2 pack of 6500 mah 15.2v 4S batteries that weigh 465 grams and will fit and from everything I read they will actually perform better and last longer with no compatibility issues. Test flight tomorrow weather permitting!

good luck. i thought about a helo for most of my life. then, when my finances and time allowed, quads came along.
i still think about it.
I know exactly what ur talking about, my first aircraft was a toy helicopter, impossible to fly, frustrating as hell, then I found my first quad (P3P) and never looked back. But now the heli's have caught up, GPS, Compass, RTH. Exact same sticks as a quad, just much bigger and sound waaay cooler. This is gonna be fun!
Btw for size comparison, the helicopter is sitting on my NEO case lol. And here's a pic with the props and the RC.

I had helicopters for about 40 years and decided about 10 years ago to sell them and just fly drones in future. Already around 2012 I flew a 450 size helicopter via FPV, stabilised by a DJI Wookong H (which was not really good).
Three weeks ago there was a big local modelling exhibition and I saw a little very scale Airwolf with GPS stabilisation, which I could not resist to take with me. This Airwolf is sold under various labels and trademarks, e.g. Eachine E188S.
As I am used to flying FPV, a camera had to be attached to the little Airwolf. So I designed and 3D-printed a clip-on camera housing for my AKK BS2 AIO camera and yesterday I had my first successful FPV flight with this little beauty. The camera with housing is less than 6 grams and gets its power from the flight battery.

Maiden flight today, I have to say I was nervous lol! Unfortunately the only video is on a friend of mines phone but I plan to fly again tomorrow and get my own video which I will share. Flight was perfect, acquired GPS lock faster than expected and flight was stable and smooth, a very impressive aircraft that I'm going to have ALOT of fun with. Take off and landing was as smooth as any of my quads. Tune in tomorrow for video!

Two differences I noted, when dropping down I have to be abit more proactive as it doesn't stop quite as fast as the quads do. Also, holding down on the left stick does not stop the motor on landing, there's a toggle switch on the RC that has to be switched on and off for motor run control. Other wise it flies exactly the same as a quad, very easy to fly and just waaay too cool. Money well spent 
Just to let you all know, the heli I got is the updated version (shown in the video) which confused me as the manual didn't match the aircraft nor did the software for tweaks specified in the manual. Fortunately the aircraft arrived Ready To Fly (RTF package) and no updates were needed. Also I do not use the stock 5000mah 14.8v battery and have never flown it. My experience (and research) has told me to always use top quality fully charged batteries when flying. See the batteries I do use and the updated video:
