Turn record to phone off

Is there a way to turn record video to iphone off? Im thinking this would help in saving battery on iphone. I only need to record to Micro SD.

Sure just switch off caching during video shooting.

That's for recording on the phone. The live stream. Switch it off and it will record only to SD

Though not sure if it will save battery...
Had a 16GB iphone 5s which I never turned on recording, coz it didn't have space to store... but still went through 40% battery in 15min flight.
Changed to a very slightly newer iphone 6, which I record to, and it drops less than 10% in 15min flight.
Maybe just the age of the phone/battery? Many topics on extending phone battery life out there!
