Updates and ECO mode

Hey all. I'm trying to update firmware on my mini 4 pro and it's going into eco mode at 40% and stalling. I have cooled everything off and have it literally sitting on top of a fan blowing up through it so it is not getting overly warm through the process. I also have cleared the cache on the RC2 but seems like maybe there is something I'm missing. It won't let me go to camera mode while the update is happening and I have to turn it off and then back on. Tried this about a half dozen times with no progress. Any ideas on what to do?

Have you tried connecting the drone to a computer running Digital Assistant 2 (consumer drones) to update the firmware?
Also, don’t mess with the drone in any way while updating ‘firmware’. You are effectively rewriting parts of the operating system on the drones chips. Accessing the partially loaded software can always mess things up.
Wait until everything has finished before restarting everything. Then you can go to camera mode.

I haven't yet due to security concerns with installing the app. Was hoping to achieve it through wifi. Are you saying I may have caused damage by turning it off when it was updating? It literally goes to 40% and just sits there stalled for 20 minutes and says to restart it if I wish to cancel or something to that effect.

After reading around the forums a little more wondering is it even necessary or ideal to update the firmware?

While updating firmware has become a regular occurrence with many modern devices it is something that I do as rarely as possible because it can literally be loading a ‘new’ operating system into the nonvolatile memory of your device and shouldn’t be interrupted if at all possible. Not doing a firmware update correctly always runs the risk of turning your drone/phone/tablet/laptop/PC into a doorstop.
Why are you updating the firmware? Does the drone have a problem or is there something offered by the update that you want?
Any security concerns are really with the source of the update file. WiFi itself isn’t a problem other than it being more likely to be interrupted or slow. It’s just that if you are using a pc there is no ambiguity about the drone being connected and powered while is happening. You should also be able to see what firmware versions are available and possibly even be able to roll back a version.
Source the DJI Assistant 2 from DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) - Download Center - DJI
that is the official source at DJI

So does anyone know why it automatically switches to eco mode at 40% during the install and stops the process dead in it's tracks? Even after deleting the cache and cooling off the drone/setting it on top of a fan for the update?
