Hi -

I have an Autel 640T Enterprise v2 drone. I am starting to use the drone for finding missing dogs but I am not having a great amount of success doing it. I'm wondering if there are better settings that I can change on the drone to give me better results. Currently when I fly the drone, many hotspots come up and it's difficult to decipher a dog that is laying down on the ground and something else. A few weeks ago, I thought that perhaps I found a missing dog, only to find out that it was a dead squirrel - must have recently died and was still giving off "heat".

So if you have experience with this particular drone and know how to adjust the settings to zero in on finding missing dogs, can you please give me some advice on what settings I can change so that I can have more success?

I hope to hear from someone soon!! :). Thank you.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

You do not mention if you have your Part 107 Certification, but even if you do this for free, as a volunteer, you are required to have that certification, Just saying…

PS: I am not an FAA Narc…

You might also check out various YouTube Videos that might offer some assistance on the setting for your thermal camera…

Have you ever preformed a controlled test having a friend take a dog out in the type of area you are normally searching and see just what type of imagery you are receiving and them play with the adjustments in this controlled environment?

The reports on your drone's thermal sensor are very good, so if the dog is there and you just do not see it, perhaps you do need to tweak your settings… or tweak your flying patterns.

For example, if the area you are searching is north of you and you fly left and right back and forth, moving further north with each pass. You would miss the dog if the dog is cuddled up on the north side of a tree. You might need to also fly all the way north, turn your drone around, and fly left and right, back and forth, moving further south with each pass…

One final note, watching that screen for any blip of thermal imagery is not conducive to flying line of sight…

Any case, Welcome aboard…
