At night without obstructions the visibility is a LOT further. I did one flight over lake Michigan that was 10,000 feet which is the farthest I could see where my drone was. Of course colored lights will not have the same brightness level as clear.Yes, I'd back that, 1600' is around 487m.
This is during daylight, at night (if we were allowed to fly at night here) it would be a lot further.
But day or night there is a diminishing point where you can't distinguish between red, green or white . . . but you can see white strobes a lot further that coloured ones.
Below is the project that I did on that 10k ft flight during the holiday season in 2020 going into 2021 with my M2P. The launch point was from the peninsula by Chicago's planetarium and goes a bit past Navy Pier, all over water with clear LOS all the way out and back.
