Warning in case of buying or selling DJI equipment:

It was always my understand that was the case. Apparently not. Makes sense.

Thanks for posting a different viewpoint on this issue: Important: DJI Account Rebinding Service Changes on June 19, 2025

Good to see an article pointing out the negative aspects, they even mentioned the word "legal." The first thing that will happen is the thieves will take full advantage of the people who simply haven't found out yet or don't realize something so stupid could be implemented. Nothing else in the world when you get your hands on the actual hardware does it magically transform into a paperweight if you're not aware. The services and the data contained within, sure. Imagine if you power on a computer, everything looks fine but somewhere in there is a program that can lock you out permanently. We call that ransomware and it's used by crooks to take advantage of unsuspecting victims. My guess is sites like eBay will automatically reverse any claims regarding locked drones which only helps to swing the pendulum the other way so the buying criminals will cheat the honest sellers. The entire setup stinks.

The DJI process has gone from bad to worse when they added/changed three things:
1. They won't confirm or deny if a drone is locked. I guess they got tired of fielding requests and they put the onus on the buyer/seller to work out the trust issues in a forum where there is already little to no trust.
2. They implemented a zero tolerance policy which is never really true when you unlock for some and not for others. This only means they unlock when they feel like it and it's going to be much fewer rather than more often.
3. They tell everyone you have to bind whether you have Care or not. Which means if you don't bind, you put yourself at risk.

For me, it's hard to believe this unless they are big plans to overhaul how this works going forward. It's been a minute since I've gone thru my drones so I'd like to take some time to review the process again using my own equipment. However, the endless horror stories I continue to post across social media on a daily basis is quite concerning. Unfortunately nothing will be done until the retailers and Amazon and Best Buy are impacted the most.

This is almost certain to become class action.
