That's a lot of spin. I'll say most everything coming out of the White House during this administration needs verification. Fox News is not a news organization according to its founder. Given that what— 23 major WH department heads have come from Fox News I'd say that verifying anything the White House says should be a habit by now.

Although I think it's safe to say The Orange One isn't the new pope despite what the White House has posted. I'll take that one on faith.

The "current administration" which is more like clown car, told us that we wouldn't pay tariffs (broad nonspecific language) but that the exporter would lower the price so that we wouldn't have to pay an increase is prices. I think most of us knew that wasn't going to happen.

To the point of pedantry we don't pay tariffs but the price increases that might arise when tariffs are increased. But we were told there wouldn't be any price increases.

And those who worried about the increased tariffs wildly throne against the wall were said to have the yippies. I've heard of the yips, but not the former. But then I'm not the kind of golfer he is.

So some things from the WH can be believed to be accurate. But that's only when something bad for the country is about to be announced.

Another test question for Civics Class:

Say some loose cannon demands a 25% tariff on any iPhone not made in the US. That's... Hm... Carry the 1... All of them.

Who pays that tariff?

a) the importer dba Apple Inc
b) the manufacturers dba Foxconn et al
c) you and I
d) all of the above

If you picked a then call it a day. Tariffs are paid only once, by the importer. What you and I pay are increased costs which may include supporting the profit margin because of the assigned tariffs. Those phones already in the country are exempt but everything else is fair game.

Now if we could order directly from FoxConn or another builder then we'd pay the tariff more commonly referred to as Customs Duties.

I'm sure the tariff would be removed just as soon as Apple starts manufacturing them in the US. Do the territories count. I know he knows we have them.

He'll have brought manufacturing back to the US in no time, right kids? His trusted sidekick will say Apple just needs to be hard-core.

For extra credit: Should we expect a self-aggrandizing announcement later? How about if the 25% tariffs are dropped? How about we do a shot every time he says it's a win?

Apple has flexibility that DJI doesn't have when it comes to leveraging AI. Tim Cook should have showed up in Saudi Arabia and now he's paying for it. Perhaps he just needs to commit to building yet another mega data center in the US to the tune of $500B and that will get him off the hook; even though they'll never follow thru on this. Where is America going to get the power and energy to run these super data centers?
