It's been a while since I flew my drones, but the visit along the South West Cornish coast of Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world, tempted me out again. I hope you enjoy
Still very beautiful thoughShe's knocking on a bit isn't she ?
I meant speedwise ....Still very beautiful though
Oh, right. She WAS much quicker than I thought, and I didn’t have as much time to film as I’d hopedI meant speedwise ....![]()
Thank you. No idea about the fuel, but if you read the information notes I put on the YouTube post, there’s details about her age. And there’s more details hereWell done. How old is the ship and what fuel provides the heat to the steam engine? Just curious. Beautiful day for showing her to the boaters. Is she in any type of regular service? Thanks for showing this.
Many thanks for the kind wordsGreat little film beautifully shot and edited. Perfect music too. I live in Bristol where of course she is berthed during the winter and she always has people doing jobs like deck painting etc and sure the engineers get in there too.
Thanks for the link. The ship’s history section answers my question - “engine’s graceful motion and sense the gentle aroma of hot oil and steam”.Thank you. Waverley Excursions – The world's last Seagoing paddle steamer
You’re very welcomeThanks for the link. The ship’s history section answers my question - “engine’s graceful motion and sense the gentle aroma of hot oil and steam”.
Clearly she sails today because a dedicated community of enthusiasts is committed to her preservation and operation. That’s wonderful. She recently had new more efficient boilers placed and a general overhaul. Originally launched in 1947 or so. Fuel oil or diesel provide the heat source. I’m sitting in California learning about a steam paddle wheeler launched in Scotland when I was two years old. This forum and the underlying Technology are wonderful. Thanks, Jeremy, for this interesting morning.

The Waverley has an extensively busy summer season sailing 'doon the watter', (google it) for further info.Nicely done video. Thanks for posting. That ship's a beauty, particularly when compared to that bloated modern cruise ship at anchor. She's on my to-do list if I ever get near to where she's sailing in the UK.
Thank you for the kind wordsBeautifully done Jeremy. Fabulous subject captured with skill. Enjoyed watching it.
Lovely to see a proper bit o'kit still in service. Too many of the old steamers ended up in the knackers yards (trains AND boats). Compared to that overgrown floating wart she's sleek and elegant... and she can still get a good lick on.It's been a while since I flew my drones, but the visit along the South West Cornish coast of Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world, tempted me out again.
