Ok all you home mechanics. Can you get this one right? How would you interpret the following error messages, and what would be the fix for them?

Gimbal motor overload:
  1. Gimbal motor overload that comes on at startup, then disappears
  2. Gimbal motor overload that comes on at startup, stays on, but gimbal operates normally
  3. Gimbal motor overload that comes on at startup, and your gimbal is limp.

Gimbal motor obstructed:

  1. Gimbal motor obstructed that comes on at startup, then disappears
  2. Gimbal motor obstructed that comes on at startup, stays on, but gimbal operates normally
  3. Gimbal motor obstructed that comes on at startup, and your gimbal is limp.

Needless to say my Mavic Pro crashed. It was a straight down spinning drop from about 50'. Now I have an error message about a "Gimbal motor overload". The drone motors still appear to operate fine. The camera work, the gimbal is hanging freely as it always has but the gimbal itself does not appear to be working. It does not even go through the normal movements when starting up.

Gimbal motor overload:
3: Gimbal motor overload that comes on at startup, and your gimbal is limp.

Any suggestions ?

Im thinking that your gimbal ribbon cable is torn. If you are not getting any power to your gimbal, but you are getting video feed, thats most likely the cause.

Field repair for a torn ribbon cable:

1: Scotch tape it on the back of the tear to bring the edges as close to original as possible.

2: Use “liquid solder” pen to paint and bridge the ribbon leads over the break.

3: put it all together and hope for the best when you power up.

4: watch as it does weird random color patterns and then finally goes all black.

...at least that’s what happened when I tried to fix a ribbon cable on my Nikon lcd screen... the solder ink filled in the crack and shorted all the leads.

5: tape over the crack and paint over the tape- it works for a little while, but I wouldn't try it on a Mavic.
