What is c4k?

I notice in the video resolution settings there is 5.1k, 1080p, 4K, and something called c4k. What is that? I can’t find any video or post that talks about it. Is it just 4K at a higher bitrate? Kind of like hq mode on the m2 pro? Does it have a crop?

Refers to a 4096x2160 resolution, sometimes called true 4k.

As was already said it’s 4096x2160. It’s stands for Cinema 4k and it’s 17:9 aspect ratio which is the standardized aspect ratio required for delivery to cinemas.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if it is letterboxed from the field of view of regular 4K, or is regular 4K a crop of it? Would be only a slight change in field of view if the latter, but just wondering..

If it is truly a 4096 sensor, then the 3840 4K is a crop.

well we know the sensor is 5.1K, so I think this is the resolution for each mode:

5.1K: 5,120 x 2880 (?)
C4K: 4,096 x 2,160 pixels
4K: 3840 x 2160

3840×2160 pixels is UHD and is a 16:9 (~1.78:1) aspect ratio matching most displays. This is what most people are talking about when they say "4K".

DCI (Digital Cinema) 4K is 4096 × 2160 (~1.90:1 aspect ratio) and will have small black bars at the top and bottom of the image if played back on a 16:9 display. It's about 0.5MP more resolution than UHD.

If it is truly a 4096 sensor, then the 3840 4K is a crop.

The sensor is much higher resolution than that or it wouldn't be able to shoot 5.1K or 20MP stills. We know it is a 20MP 4/3 sensor.

The 4K footage is oversampled from 5.1K as far as I can tell, which is the proper way to do it and results in no crop or change in effective focal length. A native 4K sensor would only be around 8.3MP.

Maximum sensor resolution should be 5184 x 3888 however manufacturers do have some leeway to alter aspect ratios and/or mask pixels.
