Where are the NFZ's-in the app or on the Mavic?

Question-if I have the latest updates that include adjacent NFZ's, and I fly past an NFZ (think of a horseshoe shaped flight path and the NFZ in the center of the horseshoe) and lose link-will the Mavic fly "across" the horseshoe via the shortest path or will it stop from flying into the NFZ?

basically, where is the "NFZ" resident? on the air vehicle or the app/controller?

what if i am using a 3rd party app, or something like DJI GS Pro which doesn't appear to have the same level of notification for NFZ?

so in my example, the Mavic would
1. stop when approaching the NFZ
2. attempt to climb over (like an obstacle)?
3. other?

I believe it would try to return, straight-line, 'sense' the NFZ and just land wherever it happens to be
