That works, too!
No cellular antenna required inside the iPad to get accurate GPS.
Besides, resetting the home point to the aircraft location whenever the aircraft is close to where you intend to land it is far easier, if you have moved away from the launch point. Then just set loss of signal to hover, until you can get back within range, and fly it back manually.
