Wi-fi mode question

The Mavic manual says I can use a wi-fi mode to control the drone. Why would I want to do this? I once had a drone that was controlled by wi-fi only, and the range was extremely limited.

I guess you would use it for a quick loop around your yard. Totally illogical to me.

I only started to use the WiFi option of control thru the device!
Hated it! Even the newest screens can’t keep up with the physical sticks of the controller. Just my experience.
