Airspace restrictions in central London and Windsor

Airspace restrictions

We wanted to let you know that following the death of Her Majesty The Queen a series of airspace restrictions have been put in place to cover events until the evening of 19 September. These affect all airspace users including drone flying.

Details of the central London restriction until the morning of 19 September have been published as a briefing sheet

This will be followed later this week by a separate NOTAM to cover central London and Windsor for the rest of 19 September. We will publish available links to information on the restrictions at https://airspacesafety.com/home/mourning-and-funeral-of-her-majesty-the-queen/

Any non-standard flight (NSF) or enhanced non-standard flight (ENSF) clearances within the London restriction, are withdrawn for the duration.

NOTAM is huge and been out a few days (Balmoral was even more excessive)

Worth remembering this will *not* likely show in DJI Geo so plenty of people will be flying illegally without realising.

More BS from our government. There are no reasons for the restrictions, almost half the people in Canada think it's time to put the monarchy in the rear view mirror.

I think the monarchy is outdated, but whether or not it should continue is irrelevant. It's a very large gathering and the restrictions are completely warranted. I'm surprised you can't see that.

The zones are excessive and arbitrary (and rushed, the NOTAMs initially contained several typos etc).

They'll put in restrictions due to so many VIPs coming but they only use some routes and areas so the massive lump of airspace is massively over the top. Worth noting its not just UAVs- its most things below about 2000ft.

So yes the size of the zones is excessive but its in placed due to large gatherings of VIPs.

(That said yes, i agree its time the UK left the middle ages and had an elected head of state).

Another massively excessive NFZ around Cardiff for next week:

The NFZ covers the city and a huge surrounding area for 15 hours.
Jug ears is visiting 2 specific locations, 2 miles from each other for a total of 2 hours in the middle of that.

It really does look like all the NFZs set up around this consisting of someone in an office going "Sod it, just make it huge and long. Less thinking required".
