With the RC Plus controller, does the WB37 battery charge inside the controller or do I need a separate charger?

I just picked up an RC Plus controller, love the thing. It's running a mod that makes it work with my Mavic 3 Pro. I have a USB C monitor on the way so I'd like a bit of extra battery capacity. If I buy a WB37 battery for the Plus do I also need to buy a charger for it, or will the battery charge inside the controller?

I DO NOT recommend you use that controller if you need the mod to make it work!!!!
BUT if you decide to keep using it the controller has a charging port for the battery. You will need to provide your own charging equipment (cable and charger) I would refer to the manual for the proper equipment.
I have had the chance to fly with one of those when testing the inspire Truthfully I dont know how anyone could use it more than a few times. It feels very strange and is not at all comfortable.............Then again I am only a flyer not a photographer so theres that.

The mod works perfectly. The travesty is that a mod is required at all since the Plus and Pro are mostly the same device as far as controlling a drone is concerned, just different hardware specs. But DJI being DJI artificially makes them not compatible. The mod just removes that nonsense.

I massively prefer the Plus to the Pro controller. Much bigger and brighter screen, better battery life, weather proof, I like the sticks on the side of the screen as opposed to on top, the aux battery will be nice when using a USB C screen, it has better ports, much better build quality, and in my opinion better form factor. I prefer everything about it. Same price as the Pro too if buying on eBay. To me it feels to the Pro controller as the Pro controller feels to the RC. But to each their own of course.

I'm a bit confused, what mod is needed? My Pro Plus charges both batteries with no problems. I use the WB37 battery with my D2-RTK GNSS, Phantom 4 RTK, each controller charges and GNSS setup can charge the WB37 internally.

Bought and Tested the DJI RC Plus on Ebay that claims to work with the Mavic series of Drones. Guess What? IT DOES WORK! I'll tell you why.

This Ebay RC Pro Plus works with the Mavic series of drones because the seller has modified the operating system. He changed it from the OS that runs the RC Plus and Changed it to the RC Pro OS. There is a caveat though. The seller emphasizes that some buttons don't work and the firmware cannot be upgraded.

The gist is that you flash the RC Pro's firmware onto the RC Plus so the Plus thinks it's a Pro. I bought the controller already modded. It works super well, the only downside is that the 3 buttons under the right stick and the C3 button don't work since they aren't on the Pro. No biggie to me, I don't even use the 3 assignable buttons under the left stick.

Was glad to have the Plus controller today, got caught in a bit of a squall. I try to keep my drones dry of course but it was nice to not have to worry about the controller.

Exactly. I'm blown away by how good it is.

I haven't looked into it since I don't have any big boy drones like a Matrice that I could use a stock plus with, but I do plan to look into how to do the mod in case I want to update the firmware later. Tho
ough I can't imagine needing to, since it's an oc3 controller and any new drones are at least oc4. But on the off chance DJI makes the pro controller oc4 compatible. Which will probably never happen though.

I updated my Ebay RC Plus to the new fly app version today to version 1.16.4 Now it wants to force me to update controller firmware (which is not an option for this mod)

I get the nags in Fly app too, but not when connected to a drone. I think I did before the update too? It's just a little "click here to update firmware" in the corner, easily ignored.

Did it last week with 0 problems. Just make sure it's the FLY app and not firmware update

Go into your profile and uncheck "Firmware Auto Download" The nags will go away.

My controller shipped with that setting already disabled, assuming you mean DJI Fly's Profile -> Settings -> About -> Auto Check for Updates, move the slider to disabled. Definitely a necessary thing to do. But I was still getting a little link to update in DJI Fly when I wasn't connected to a drone. But I'm not seeing it now so maybe it's intermittent. Or maybe I'm imagining it.

But very good point, disabling "Auto Check For Updates" in DJI Fly's Profile -> Settings -> About -> Auto Check for Updates is absolutely necessary when using this hack or, so I've heard, you occasionally get a popup window prompting you to update the firmware, which is probably all too easy to click.

DJI figures you'll eventually click the wrong box! LOL!
