Very strange behavior from my Mavic Air regarding firmware/geofencing upgrades out of the box.
So I get my Mavic Air, charge everything up, and power everything on. I fully expect and see multiple messages regarding necessary firmware and geofencing upgrades needed. I usually use DJI Assistant, but this time I figured I'd fully test the capability to upgrade just using my tablet via the DJI GO app.
Seemed like there were multiple upgrades. Well when it appeared it had all completed, I power-cycled everything one last time and it took it outside. Everything looked good on the App.
Flew from my driveway where I do often with all my drones, Spark, Mavic Pro, Phantom 4, and even my Inspire. Did a quick function check then took it up 150' and flew out 500' feet. All of a sudden the screen went black and I received a message that video signal was lost. I was about to hit the RTH button when it said, all contact with the drone was lost and it was initiating RTH. On its trip back I'd get a image back for a couple seconds and it would go back into its lost connection mode with a black screen. It did what it was supposed to automatically, RTH. I only regained signal when it was directly over me. I waited till it was about 50' above me before landing it. At which point it flashed a bunch of error messages about being in the wrong country and needing firmware upgrades and then having a compass error.
I took it back inside and power-cycled everything and sure enough it was saying it needed further upgrades. This time I used the DJI assistant. Power-cycled and fired everything outside. This time it came up and stated it had a compass error and it required a compass cal. Performed the CC and power-cycled everything.
This time it basically flew as expected. Got it out 1000' feet 125' up and it was mostly flying as expected.
Never have/had this behavior with any of my other DJI drones...
