I got a Tello for my grandson who didn’t show any interest in so I’ve used it myself for the same reasons you’re currently thinking about it. I’ve used myself and its pretty imp with what it does at the price point. I have a Mavic 2 Pro and when I can’t use it this a nice one to just fly around.

Driving towards Red Rocks I found a Model Airplane Club and the Vice President was there with a Inspire drone flying around. He was kind enough to like me fly my Mavic 2 Pro around for some shots. Also mentioned to me about the AMA and it’s insurance coverage, it’s worth checking out.

I take mine all the time. They never have checked any baggage.

Definitely try using ND filters to help your camera in bright sun.

The main reason I decided not to go with the new Smart controller was that it was android based so I just purchased a 6 generation iPad to use instead of my iPhone XS Max.

It looks like they’ve added a piece between the two halves that are used as a pin or rotator point.
