Anybody tried a "Tile Sticker" to aid in recovery?

I have a Loc8tor, range is up to a 150m or so, bit it is really good when you are close, the receiver is very directional and you can get within a foot of the device, easily enough to see a drone in a wood or field. The last known position should get you close enough. https://loc8tor.co.uk/

Lost at sea - Mavic Air

I had opportunity to get some video and stills from my pals yacht on Sunday. Conditions were perfect, light wind and calm sea, so we got about a mile offshore powered up my Mavic Air and before it had even got to full take off height it flew quickly to the back of the boat, hit the back stay...

    What's it worth.---submerged drone

Break it for spares. My Phantom went in to fresh water and was there for 20 minutes. Rice dried it out,yes it does work very well, but whilst the drone would power up one of the motor drive controllers was burnt out. The camera and gimble was 100% okay, as was the motors, air fame, legs...

    Very poor range with MA2

3dB is a doubling in power so 6dB is 4x. Distance doubles for a 4x power increase (square law), so if everything else is equal 800m on CE will be 1.6km on FCC. In practice trying to double your distance increases the chances of noise so you never normally get double the distance for 6dB...

    Range on Mavic Mini

I would have saved the money on the yagi, if you are over 500m, don’t have visual (unaided) line of sight and you haven’t taken the drone test or registered your drone you have already broken 3 rules. You are not related to Dominic Cummings are you?

    Range on Mavic Mini

Hi, Not wanting to put a dampener on things but maximum distance in the UK is 500m. You have to have a commercial license to go over that, which I guess you don’t have? If your drone works perfectly to 500m then anything over this in the UK is not really of much use if you want to stay legal...

    How do antennas work

VHF and UHF long range comms are reliant on either Sporadic E (exists at VHF, but hardly ever at UHF and certainly not at 2.45GHz) or Tropospheric Scatter, again this can extend in to UHF but it would have to be a major event for it to get to 2.45GHz, or you would have to be running very high...

why all the anger to registering your drone

I really don’t see what the issue is with registration, it only costs £9 and you get a refresher on the drone code. If you have to question some of the rules (see above) then you should stop flying until you can fly safely, legal and do not cause a nuisance to others. This is the real issue...

    How do antennas work

MIMO is Multiple In, Multiple Out. True MIMO has multiple transmitters and receivers although usually only has one of each, but with seperate modulation and initial decode stages, one for each antenna. MIMO is used to transmit and receive to multiple devices at the same time, or by the use of...

    How do antennas work

Also if extra height improves your signal path, it also improves the signal path of interfering sources.

    How do antennas work

Microwave signals are assumed to be line of sight, however, the signal spreads from the optical line of sight, it is called the Fresnel Zone. Objects in the Fresnel Zone cause attenuation, see the following link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnel_zone The size of the Fresnel Zone is...

    How do antennas work

Something else that helps, if you connect your phone/pad to your controller via a cable, then turn off WiFi/Bluetooth on your phone/tablet, these can cause a fair bit of interference especially in 2.45GHz. You might also want to put the phone in flight mode to kill the cellular stages as well...

    How do antennas work

If you double the distance from 100ft to 200ft then the interferring signal will go down by 6dB. So if there aren't any other noise sources in the area then yes your signal to noise will improve. The chances of there been no other interference except in one spot is unlikely. However, if you...

    How do antennas work

Just to explode some myths: - VHF is 30 - 300MHz, UHF is 300 - 3000MHz. - Mavic's run at 2450 or 5100MHz, the operate in the WiFi bands, so whilst one band is technically UHF it is usually refered to microwave or WiFi now. - When you gain a lot of height you get a really good signal path to...

    CAA Drone Registration

Hi, Just completed the test, got 1 answer wrong Question 18: You’re out flying a drone in an area you know well. You start to get worried that you might lose sight of your drone in the glare of the low winter sun. What should you do...
