    Calibration

An interesting theory, but my understanding of degaussing is that it is mainly used to demagnetize ferrous metal near the compass (say in an airplane or boat) that is biasing the compass. I doubt that MA has enough internal metal that would require degaussing, and I worry that trying to degauss...

Mavic Air - What Don’t You Like

Lucky you, and I mean that sincerely. Mine requires re-calibration if I give it a stern look. Weak magnetic fields exist everywhere so perhaps I have an insufficiently shielded compass. I suspect inferior compass design due to pressure to keep cost low.

Mavic Air - What Don’t You Like

I've had a lot of fun with my Mavic Air in the nearly one year that I've owned it. Its small & compact size is great for back country adventuring. I would not be sad if the noise was a bit less, but my major *giant* dislike is: 1. The frequency of being required to re-calibrate the compass (do...

    Calibration

Any reason the Mavic Air requires it so often?

    Compass calibration

Hi stefan, Did you ever find an answer to your question? The answers this this thread seem ... off point, so perhaps you found help elsewhere? I would like to be able to do the same. I've had the experience of having to land my drone (Mavic Air) at some distance, and then be unable to take off...

DJI drops AirMap and increases size of airport No Fly zones.

I'm in the same situation. Grass strips that are miles away, a once tower controlled airport that has been abandoned for two decades and formally closed by its University owner a couple of years back ( still on Airmap). Helipads at businesses that no longer own or use helicopters. The problem...

Which Maps to Trust for Safe Flying

Why don't the various apps agree? Some have so many orange circles they look like cancer-clusters around Chernobyl, while other seem to discriminate better. I've settled on Airmap because I can set it to focus on just the "Required Rules" for Part 101 recreational flying which allows me to fly...

    Total Newbie - Interpreting AirMap

I've been a newbie just long enough to realize that what you are asking for is a creature of myth, often mentioned, but like Unicorns or BigFoot, never seen.

What is the file dji.gis for?

I did open the file and it is a binary format, not text. A hex dump reveals that the header is "GIS". If I had to guess, it would be that it is a GIS file, but using some proprietary DJI format.I would surmise that it is storing flight tracks or some other form of location data; but I was...

    Police came by my house

Also a new drone owner here (Mavic Air) and I can relate. There is a ton of public open area around here; but after investigating I find that so much of it is closed to recreational drone use. All city parks, all "natural areas", all state parks, all national parks. I either have to drive an...

    Thanks. Done.

What is the file dji.gis for?

I too am curious. I'm surprised at how little information there is on the rather large DJI.GIS file that the Mavic Air has deposited on my SD card after recording video for several flights. GIS is the acronym for Geographical Information Systems and seems to be a reference to software/format...

    Hello from Colorado

Hi everyone. Newbie here with a Mavic Air. I'm enjoying it and still learning how this all works.
