    I would like a complete pre-flight checklist

I suspect it's related to an obstical ;)

Has anyone been stopped from flying by the police in the UK...?

The CAA proposed regulation requiring hobbyists to register their drone is ludicrous. It's already been explained why earlier in this thread but I suggest all brits follow my example and write to the CAA and to their local MP pointing out the futility of the idea. I'll be happy to email a...

Lithium batteries are everywhere - why do we need to store ours at ~50%? (and set auto-discharge at X days?)

Just a small clarification:- Lithium ion batteries use liquid lithium ion as electrolyte whilst lithium polymer use solid or gelatin like polymers as the electrolyte. Comparison:-

£16.50 for licence to own a drone in the UK

@FoxhallGH Great scheme, but how long do you think that the CAA would allow that to exist? ;)

Why was I allowed to take off w/gimbal cover on?

Pilots of manned aircraft always do a walk-around before getting into the aeroplane. Items such as the pitot head have covers with a trailing red ribbon as a reminder to remove before flight. I have done the same with the gimbal cover on my Mavic Pro. The ribbon is permanently attached to...

    Visual Line of Sight?

Does nobody understand plain English? Regardless of individual country regs , VLOS simply means 'Visual Line of Sight'. What's so difficult about that? You must be able to see the aircraft with your naked eyes when it's airborne - allowing for, if you wear them, your normal spectacles. If...

Brand new Mavic 2 Pro owner

The CAA regulations in the UK make it abundantly clear that you must be able to see your drone at all times during flight. VLOS is self-explanatory! I'm sure that the FAA follows identical rules in this respect. As a retired flying instructor I can imagine only too well the dangers of drones...

    Did somebody say, "idiot?? '

Pilot's commandment:- "At least 8 hours between bottle & throttle!".

    It's this illegal?

Since regulations vary in different parts of the world, might it be an idea to establish regional sections within the forum. It's quite tedious to follow up what looks like an interesting question only to find that it applies only to the FAA and that the CAA (for example) is quite different...

How high have you flown your mavic 2?

Just out of interest, in aviation there are three definitions of "height": 1. The QFE (local current airfield pressure) is set on the pilot's altimeter and the aircraft's vertical position is reported as "height". 2. The QNH (Regional Pressure setting) is set on the pilot's altimeter and the...

    Can't fly over people???

I'm so glad I didn't emigrate to Australia (I was tempted 40 years' ago)! Aussie seems to have regressed to the UK 50 years ago!

Gatwick Airport (UK) suspends flights due to Drone activity

We all know that even very sophisticated drones can fly for about 25 minutes. These intrusions have, allegedly, gone on for hours. So, either there is more than one operator or the authorities are being totally incompetent in tracking them down. Of course, it could be one operator with a...

Drones are now banned from flying in these UK parks to 'reduce risk to the public'.

My handle is not "oldcelt" for nothing! ;) Wales is a great place to fly your drone (although I now live 6 miles on the wrong side of the border).

Blade Test Results- DJI vs CARBON FIBER

If the figures are accurate that's a dramatic improvement in sound levels. Remember decibels follow a logarithmic scale and a difference of 3db represents a doubling (or halving) of perceived sound level!

Why you shouldn't buy a Mavic 2 or any drone that relies on your phone.

I think some common sense is lacking with the OP. If, as was claimed, serious research had been done before purchase, then it would have been crystal clear that a smart-phone or a notepad was essential to be able to fly the drone. Yes, some have had problems with DJI drones. Hardly...
