Drones are required to maintain an elevation of no less than 1,000 feet when within a half nautical-mile radius (about 3,038 feet or 925 metres) of any marine mammal, including whales. That should be considered when deciding on which drone is most appropriate.
Actually, I’m on Vancouver Island and quite a distance from any major airport. I may give the mini a chance at some point but I think I just need to find more time and interesting spots to launch from. Time will tell!
I haven’t flown it that much, just under 150 hours over two years. I have the Advanced certificate which is less restrictive but still, between the Govt required paperwork and BLOS/ALT restrictions, I just can’t seem to get excited about flying. Perhaps if I had more interest in photography it...
I Bought the Mavic Air 2 when it was first introduced and which has been problem free. At the time I did not realize all the preparation required just to go out and fly freely. It was less hassle flying airplanes.
As a Private Pilot who lost his medical and consequently tried to recapture at least some of the feeling I had flying by purchasing a RPAS, I’ve been disappointed…in part because of all the restrictions and rules that apply to what should be a fun and easy pastime. Hope it works out better for you!
If flying from a parking lot, I’ve utilized hazard cones around my landing pad which tends to keep people out of my launch/land area although it does occasionally attract onlookers. So far, no issues and no harassment.
Same issue, but only on my android which I gave up on the update after 30 minutes of showing at 46%. Haven’t tried updating again but, needed or not, I always perform updates.
I live in BC and purchased my insurance through COPA. While I am also a private pilot, I don’t think that is required although you may have to join COPA first. Perhaps contact [email protected] for info. I found them and the rates quite reasonable.
Ordered the ‘works’ from Coal and while I have not yet had a chance to try the stuff for my MA2, I was certainly impressed with the customer service received from Coal!
You may well be correct but I see nowhere where it indicates this also applies to foreign operators. I agree in this case it is best to go straight to the source and in this regard I would suggest direct contact with Transport Canada requesting the specific area that covers foreigners flying...
I believe this is the information you require picked from from Drone Laws in Canada [Updated October 12, 2021]
RPAS Safety Assurance
The RPAS Safety Assurance tells users the safety limits of the drone they are using. Pilots must operate their drone within the limits outlined in the RPAS...
I just ordered the package from Coal not only because of the quality of the product that I had seen in the videos but the respect shown him by the members of this forum. He was quick to respond to my questions and the transaction was very smooth. I should be enjoying the product shortly.
